Introducing our new Service Status & Issue Tracking Platforms

Over the last month we have celebrated 16 years of innovation, and we are now pleased to launch our new Service Status and Issue Tracking platforms.

We speak to Nic Elliott, the CTO at Evolving Networks. Nic has been our technical lead from day one. Nic designed and built the first versions of our network hypervisor software - the Intelligent Network Fabric (INF), and our monitoring and management platform eView Live.

Nic takes us through our new Service Status and Issue Tracking platforms and how it will support our customers and partners.

1) What has made Evolving Networks unique and innovative over the last 16 years?

I think we’ve always been focused on providing customers with the ability to build network connectivity that is as resilient as they need or want it to be. Uptime is really important for our customers, but you need a whole framework for being able to achieve that. That’s what we’ve created – an entire mindset around uptime and network resilience.

As we built the network and software to support that vision, we realised it doesn’t stop with uptime, and pushed network abstraction in new directions to be able to provide the most flexible networks possible, with any combination of topology or layer 2/3 networking our customers can dream of.

2) Tell us more about the Service Status page.  How does it differ from eView Live?

In many ways it’s been a long time coming launching these services, but with such a complex networking product, we wanted to make sure when we did it, we did it right.

One of our mantras, is “keep customers online”, and part of that is building tailor made networks and internet connections, customised to the needs of the organisation using our network software.

That means many more components than normal internet connections and WANs, which means more sophisticated monitoring is needed. That’s one of the reasons we built eView Live. It’s always been a one stop shop to see the status of your network connections and see live traffic flow and status.

That’s not going to change, and in fact we are only going to be building more features into eView Live over the coming years. But what’s been missing is something public that anyone can view to quickly see at a glance whether there is a major issue at play – enter our service status page.

On one page, you’ll be able to track the status of all Network Fabric Routers(NFRs), as well as all our websites. We’ll also post important messages at the top if there is a more major issue, such as with a datacentre, or with a national carrier affecting a large section of the country.

3) How will the Issue Tracker page work?

Another important value of ours is transparency, and we’ve been making big strides in improving our communications with customers.  The issue tracker is the latest push there, where we’ve taken the view that everyone, whether a customer or not, should be able to see what we’re working on, and where the focus is for our development teams.

From today, everyone will be able to see the live issues. Whether they are software improvements, new features, or major carrier issues.

4) How important is visibility when managing connections?

Everything we provide is a managed service, so none of this replaces that– but feedback has been that greater visibility is better, and we think we can use both of these new pages to get messages to customers quickly and efficiently, along with showing potential customers just how we work.

5) What are Evolving Networks plans for the next year?

We’re currently improving the way we deploy new connections, stepping up the level of automation, and removing some manual steps for the most complex network configurations.

After that we have grand plans for overhauling our monitoring platforms. We’ve always prided ourselves on having more data at our fingertips than any other service provider, whether a network carrier or MSP.

We’re taking the next leap, increasing the size and scope of our platform, which will allow us to build even more impressive data flows into eView Live next year.
