We’re celebrating National Work Life Week - Flex for All at Evolving Networks

This week marks National Work Life Week, led by Working Families, shining a spotlight on the importance of balance between work and life. The theme this year is “Flex for All” and we are proud to be a part of it.

For us, flexibility is not a policy on paper. It’s part of how we work, how we support each other, and how we build the future of our business. We know that when our people can bring their whole selves to work and balance their responsibilities, aspirations, and passions, everyone thrives.

Flexibility that works in practice

At Evolving Networks, we’re proud to offer a wide range of flexible benefits that help our people adapt work around their lives. From hybrid working and flexible hours to family-friendly policies, we believe in creating a culture where colleagues feel supported, trusted, and empowered.

Supporting Apprenticeships through Flexibility

We’re strong advocates of apprenticeships as a pathway into technology careers. Apprentices bring fresh ideas, enthusiasm, and a desire to learn and we make sure they can thrive by giving them the flexibility to balance their day-to-day roles with coursework and study time.

Flexibility here means more than just time on a calendar. It’s about trust and encouragement, ensuring that learning is not squeezed in around the edges, but valued as part of the role. Our apprentices know they have the space and support to build their future.

Championing Women in Tech

As part of our ongoing commitment to Women in Tech, we’ve shaped our benefits and policies to support women at every stage of their career. From those starting a career in tech with mentoring and training, through to family-friendly flexible working policies, we are building an environment where women don’t have to choose between progressing in technology and balancing family life.

Flexibility here creates opportunity — opening doors for more women to enter, grow, and lead in tech.

A CEO’s perspective: Why flexibility matters

We asked our CEO, Nick Johnson, to share his thoughts on flexibility, apprenticeships, and supporting women in tech.

Q: National Work Life Week’s theme this year is “Flex for All.” What does that mean to you at Evolving Networks?

Flexibility has always been part of our culture, not just a benefit we list on a careers page. “Flex for All” is about making sure flexibility is inclusive, that it works for parents, for people starting their careers, and even for those with dogs at home. Everyone’s life is different, so our role as an employer is to create an environment where people can do their best work without sacrificing what’s important outside of work.

Q: How do apprenticeships fit into your flexible working approach?

Apprentices are a vital part of our team. They bring energy, curiosity, and new perspectives. But an apprenticeship is a dual commitment: you’re working while studying. That’s why flexibility is so important. It allows apprentices to dedicate proper time to their coursework without feeling like they’re falling behind at work. We make sure they’re supported and trusted to balance both. That’s how we build the next generation of tech talent.

Q: Evolving Networks has also championed Women in Tech. How does flexibility play a role here?

For women in technology, the barriers aren’t about ability, they’re often about opportunity. From mentoring and training for women starting their careers, through to family-friendly policies, we aim to make those opportunities accessible. Flexibility gives women the confidence that they don’t have to choose between a career in tech and family life. It’s about building an environment where they can thrive and progress.

Q: You’ve even introduced "Bring Your Dog to Work Day". Why was that important?

Work-life balance shouldn’t be defined too narrowly. Yes, it’s about childcare and family, but for many colleagues their pets are part of the family too. Bringing dogs into the office has real wellbeing benefits. It reduces stress and gets people talking. Plus, it makes the workplace more fun. Flexibility should reflect real life, and sometimes that means four paws under the desk!

Q: Beyond flexibility, how else do you make sure each person can thrive at Evolving Networks?

That’s where our "Perfect Job Program" comes in. We recognise that no two people are the same, so we aim to tailor each role with working practices, training, and a development plan that’s unique to the individual. For some, that means structured career progression and certifications. For others, it’s about shaping their role to match strengths and personal goals. The Perfect Job Program is our way of showing that careers here aren’t one-size-fits-all — they’re designed around the person.

Q: Finally, why is flexibility so central to Evolving Networks’ brand values?

Because trust is at the heart of everything we do. We trust our people to deliver, and in return, we give them the trust and flexibility to shape how they work. Innovation and collaboration happen when people feel supported, not constrained. Flexibility is how we make our values real.

Flex for All, in action

“Flex for All” is about making flexibility accessible, real, and part of everyday working life. At Evolving Networks, that means creating space for parents to do school runs, for apprentices to study, for colleagues to prioritise wellbeing, and for women to thrive in technology careers.

And yes, it also means welcoming the occasional wagging tail in the office — because flexibility should reflect all the ways life and work connect.

We’re proud to join National Work Life Week once again to celebrate and advocate for a working world where flexibility isn’t a perk, but a principle.

National Work Life Week – Why flexible working matters

It’s National Work Life Week. It’s run by Working Families, the UK’s national charity for working parents and carers and we are proud to be a part of it. This year’s theme is all about discovering what flexible working means to people from all walks of life and in all sorts of job roles. At Evolving Networks, we support and encourage flexible working. We talk to some of our valuable colleagues to highlight that flexible working is possible no matter what the role involves.
