Celebrating Apprenticeship Success

Celebrating Success: Brandon Hancock completes his Apprenticeship

At Evolving Networks, apprenticeships are at the heart of how we grow our people and our business. This month, we’re proud to celebrate a huge milestone for Brandon Hancock, who has successfully completed his Level 3 Information Communication Technician (ICT) Apprenticeship with a Distinction.

We sat down with Brandon to talk about his journey, what he’s learned, and where he’s heading next.

Congratulations, Brandon! How does it feel to have passed your apprenticeship?

Thank you! It feels amazing to complete the course with a distinction. It was 18 months of learning and challenges, but it's been a really rewarding experience.

Can you tell us a bit about the apprenticeship itself?

The apprenticeship was focused on how an IT Technician operates in the workplace. It covered things like testing, replacing, and upgrading hardware for devices such as laptops, and also the importance of communicating effectively with end users — giving timely updates to customers is just as important as fixing the issue itself.

What sort of projects did you work on?

One of my key projects was upgrading a laptop with improved performance components and a new operating system. I also created test plans to make sure everything worked correctly before rolling it out. A big part of the course involved learning through simulation — for example, I used Baltic’s virtual machines to work with Active Directory and domain controller environments. That hands-on experience was a huge help.

How has the apprenticeship supported your career development?

I now have a much deeper understanding of how customer and office networks are set up, including domain controllers and servers. The skills I’ve gained mean I can handle customer issues more professionally and give them updates with confidence. The course has definitely strengthened both my technical ability and my communication skills.

What has your experience been like as a Service Desk Engineer at Evolving Networks?

It’s been really varied! Every day is different —from helping customers with issues to supporting bigger projects alongside the team. The apprenticeship really tied into my role, and I’ve been able to apply what I was learning straight away.

How has Evolving Networks supported you along the way?

The support has been fantastic. My manager and colleagues made sure I always had the right balance between learning and contributing to the team. I was encouraged to ask questions, get involved, and keep developing. The culture here is all about growth and helping each other succeed.

What’s next for you now that you’ve completed your apprenticeship?

I’m looking forward to building my career with Evolving Networks, taking on more responsibility, and continuing to grow my skills.

A message from the team

Nick Johnson, CEO at Evolving Networks, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Brandon’s achievement. His journey shows exactly what our apprenticeship programme is about — developing talent, providing opportunities, and building future leaders in IT. Well done, Brandon!”
